3 月 11 日に発生した東日本大震災を受け生まれた仙台短篇映画祭による『明日』という企画、これをさらに世界の作家へ拡げて行きたいと考えた河瀨直美監督が、独自のテーマ“A Sense of Home”（「家」という感覚）を設け、『3.11 A Sense of Home Films』は始まりました。作品のテーマから生まれる、「家族・ふるさと・祖国への想いを世界中の人と考えること」を目的とし、世界から集まった 3 分 11 秒
の映像作品は、金峯山寺（奈良県）にて奉納野外上映会されました。
今回の様な規模の災害では、‘家/House’だけではなく、多くの人の‘故郷/Home’が、失われ、傷つけられ、壊されました。東日本大震災による災害を自分事とし、世界各地それぞれの『A Sense of Home』を投影したものがこの作品群となります。さまざまな文化圏からのそれぞれの Home への想いを分かち合い、この取り組みが、多くの苦難に対する勇気や希望になれればという願いが込められています。

昨年、大勢のバレエ・ファンに惜しまれつつ、ロイヤル・バレエ団を去った元プリンシパル、吉田都が20日、再び同団の本拠地、ロイヤル・オペラ・ハウスの舞台に立った。東日本大震災の被災者救済のためのチャリティー公演。前半はロンドンの音楽学校に通う日本人/日系の生徒による演奏、そして後半は吉田都を始め、同団の日本人ダンサーが総出演したこの公演の会場が決定したのは、何と18日。正味2日もない準備期間で公演を実現させたその裏には、ダンサーや同団オフィス、そして生徒の母親らボランティアの存在があった。公演翌日、吉田さんに公演当日までの道程を語ってもらった。

エジプトのカイロで、東日本大震災の被災者を支援しようと、現地に住む日本の子どもたちや海外の音楽家が参加して、チャリティーコンサートが開かれました。
コンサートはエジプト・カイロに暮らす日本人の有志の呼びかけで、２２日、開かれました。日本人学校に通う子どもたちが、会場のカイロオペラハウスの入り口で、手作りの箱­を手に入場料の代わりに義援金を呼びかけました。コンサートでは、震災の犠牲者に黙とうをささげたあと、日本の奥田紀宏大使が「日本は国際社会からの支援を受けて、必ず立­ち上がりたいと思います」とあいさつしました。続いて、浴衣姿の日本の子どもたちが元気いっぱいに「幸せなら手をたたこう」を歌うと、エジプト人の観客からも大きな拍手が­起きていました。カイロで活動する韓国やオーストリアなどの歌手や演奏家もボランティアで参加して、立ち見も出るほどの大盛況となり、最後は全員で「ふるさと」を合唱しま­した。日本への留学経験があるというエジプト人の女子大学生は「いま、遠くにいる私たちにできることはあまりないかもしれませんが、僅かなことでもしたいという私たちの気­持ちが日本に届いてほしいです」と話していました。
