Help Japan: Supporters Around The World Fundraise Creatively After Disaster

I recently returned from Little Tokyo in Los Angeles, where there was much relief effort going on for Japan. The people of L.A. had come up with everything under the Rising Sun to help Japan. It’s beautiful how charity brings people together.

In Little Tokyo, signs hung in every proprietor’s window, each with a different version of relief: “Love for Japan,” an earthquake relief benefit concert, was being held by local musicians, a “Save Japan” charity market was on at the Higashi Honganji Buddhist Temple and another store had T-shirts that said “Save Japan Now,” (all proceeds donated to Red Cross).

Strictly Street Salsa — Rueda at Fundraising Social for Japan, in Houston, TX

Strictly Street Salsa holds a Salsa social on the second Saturday of every month in Houston, Texas (USA). We used the proceeds from our social on April 9, 2011, to benefit victims of the recent earthquakes and tsunami in Japan. We called the social “Salsa for Japan.”
The song used in this clip is “Salsa Caliente” by Orquesta de la Luz, which is a famous Salsa band from Japan. The dance is a freestyle “Rueda” by members of Strictly Street Salsa’s performance team. This variation of Salsa dancing (also called “Casino Rueda,” “Rueda de Casino,” or “Salsa Rueda”) is based out of Cuba and Miami.

South Florida DJs Love Japan at Hollywood North Beach Park This Sunday

We don’t need to remind you of the terrible ordeals currently facing the nation of Japan. The March 11 earthquake and subsequent tsunami destroyed large sections of the island’s northeastern coast, leaving tens of thousands dead or missing. And as if that wasn’t catastrophic enough, workers are still desperately attempting to contain a meltdown at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, while seven-plus magnitude aftershocks further threaten the already precarious situation.

NAPLES – “How can we help? What can we do?” said Sean Buckley.
These are the questions that ran through the mind of Naples resident and first year student at Ave Maria School of Law, Sean Buckley, following the massive tragedy in Japan.
“It’s a very sad time. It is a very unfortunate time,” said Sean Buckley.
Buckley spending four years in the country teaching English and training teachers before the disaster struck. It was in that time he was able to make many friends even finding that special someone.
